Castelo de Vide is one of the main reasons we love this area so much. It’s less than half an hour’s drive away, so we regularly go there for a bit of atmosphere or a nice lunch. We have already spent a lot of time there before we came to live in Portugal, but we still have more to discover there.
Liveliness
This perched town has barely more than a thousand inhabitants, but has a wonderful liveliness about it. Like Marvão, it is known for its medieval castle, but Castelo de Vide definitely has more activity. Especially on market day it is very cozy with locals who have a drink on one of the terraces after their shopping.

Historic centre
The romantic streets that run around the castle are well-kept, colourful and decorated with flowers. Actually, it looks like a kind of open-air museum. There are a number of nice shops, beautiful churches and museums to discover. There are also plenty of options for good food (but only within the standard Portuguese opening hours). If you like azulejos, the typical Portuguese tiles, you also have plenty to see here.

Around
There are a number of roads around Castelo de Vide that give you a spectacular view of the town. These viewpoints are the perfect place for a laid-back picnic. Walking routes lead you past the many fountains or take you into nature. Do you want tips for your visit? We can help you!
