Belladonna Lilly

Oct 15, 2024 | garden

Fantastically coloured flowers in October? In Portugal, it’s quite normal. We received the key to our new house at just the right time to enjoy the Amaryllis belladonna for another week. In seemingly completely random places, the pink flowers of this Belladonna Lilly sparkled among the greenery.

Our very first photo after arrival was one of this, for us unknown, flower. What a nice welcome! The Belladonna Lily is originally from South Africa, but was taken to other places in the world because of its beauty. In Portugal, they are now growing in the wild again, for example on our land. Although this flower looks so pretty, it is not exactly harmless. Its poison can give both humans and animals medical problems. It dissapeared shortly after our arrival, but we will hopefully see more of it next year!
